Her Majesty the Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck, UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador to Bhutan met with Dr. Natalia Kanem, the Executive Director of UNFPA in New York on 19th April 2024.
The meeting focused on ongoing partnership in addressing last-mile challenges, reflected on the progress made since the International Conference on Population Development (ICPD) 30 years ago and discussed way to accelerate progress on ICPD Program of Action through innovative approaches and digital solutions such as inclusion of AI for gender issues and women’s economic empowerment. Senior officials from the Royal textile Academy, Permanent Mission of Bhutan to UN and UNFPA headquarter in New York were also present.
During the meeting, Dr. Natalia acknowledged Her Majesty’s dedication as a Goodwill Ambassador and Patron, which meant a lot to the UNFPA. Dr Natalia appreciated the excellent partnership between the Kingdom of Bhutan and UNFPA over the past 40 years, with impressive results for women and girls.
Her Majesty the Queen Mother will be presiding over the opening of a four-day Bhutan Textile Festival as the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at the World Bank event “Bhutan Transition-Empowerment of Women for Productivity and Employment” in Washington, DC.
