Dr. Aleksandar Sasha Bodiroza UNFPA Deputy Regional Director for Asia and Pacific, along with Ms. Andrea Wojnar UNFPA India Representative/Country Director for UNFPA Bhutan, met with government secretaries in Bhutan.
During these meetings Dr Sasha commended the excellent partnership that has existed between the Royal Government of Bhutan and UNFPA over the past 40 years. He also acknowledged Bhutan’s progress in implementing the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Program of Actions and congratulated for the endorsement of UNFPA Bhutan 8th Country Program document (2024-2028) by the Executive Board. Dr. Sasha reaffirmed UNFPA’s commitment to supporting Bhutan in achieving critical goals: zero preventable maternal death, addressing unmet needs and eliminating gender-based violence.
Bhutan is the first among Asia Pacific countries that Dr. Sasha chose to visit in his capacity as Deputy Regional Director and highly appreciated the commitments and openness among senior officials to sexual and reproductive health matters.
